01Anatomy of a clinic visit — what makes 90 minutes 90 minutes
When patients ask 'how long does Botox take?' the honest answer is: the injections themselves take five minutes. The visit, however, takes thirty — and the gap between those two numbers is where international patients lose half a sightseeing day if they planned around the wrong number.
A typical aesthetic clinic visit unpacks into four windows: arrival + history (5–10 min), consultation + treatment plan (10–15 min), pre-procedure prep (5–25 min depending on numbing), the procedure itself (5–60 min depending on type), and post-procedure observation + photos + payment (10 min). Add 15 minutes either side for clinic-to-hotel transport in Bangkok traffic, and the realistic block is 90 minutes for almost every treatment, even the ones the marketing copy calls 'lunch-break' procedures.
International patients should book the FIRST appointment of the day or the LAST. First-of-day visits avoid the cumulative running-late drift that builds across morning bookings; last-of-day means there is no patient after you, so the physician can take five extra minutes if you need it without rushing.
We schedule international patients into these slots by default at Waleerat Clinic.
02Per-treatment time table — actual numbers from in-house logs and published norms
The numbers below are the realistic doors-open-to-doors-out windows for each treatment, cross-referenced between Waleerat Clinic in-house procedure-time logs and published industry norms (US dermatology + plastic surgery clinic data). The 'first-time vs follow-up' distinction matters — first-time visits include a 15–20 minute consultation that subsequent visits do not need.
- Botulinum toxin (Botox / Hutox): first visit 30–45 min · follow-up 20–30 min · procedure itself 5–15 min · post-clinic photos OK same hour. Most painless of all injectables; topical numbing optional.
- HA dermal filler (Juvederm / Restylane / Belotero): first visit 45–60 min · follow-up 30–45 min · 15–20 min topical numbing then 15–30 min injection · post-clinic photos OK same hour BUT mild swelling 24–72h, bruising risk 3–7d (concealable with makeup).
- Thread lift (Grand Diamond / Onyx / Ruby No.5): first visit 60–90 min · follow-up 45–60 min · 15 min local anaesthetic infiltration then 30–60 min thread placement · DO NOT fly for 24h (local swelling uncomfortable on a plane, not medically unsafe).
- HIFU (Ulthera SPT / Ultraformer III): first visit 60–90 min · follow-up 45–60 min · 5 min prep then 45–75 min ultrasound delivery · post-clinic mild redness 1–3h, photos OK same hour, NO bruising.
- Thermage FLX: first visit 45–75 min · follow-up 35–60 min · 5 min prep then 35–55 min radiofrequency delivery · post-clinic warmth fades in 1–2h, photos OK same hour.
- Pico / Q-switch laser: first visit 30–45 min · follow-up 20–30 min · 5–10 min topical then 10–30 min laser delivery · pinpoint marks 4–7d (small but visible up close).
- Sculptra / biostimulators (Profhilo / Belluxi / Juvelook / Reset): first visit 45–75 min · follow-up 30–45 min · 5–10 min prep then 20–45 min injection · post-clinic photos OK same hour, mild swelling 24–48h. Note: requires 2–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart for full effect — single-trip patients get one session.
- AquaPure / hydrafacial program: 60–90 min · zero post-clinic downtime, photos OK immediately. The 'finish-the-trip' treatment many patients book on their last morning before checkout.
03Post-clinic 'photo-acceptable' window — when can you take a wedding photo, and when can you fly
Bangkok aesthetic patients fall into three trip-purpose categories, and each has a different definition of 'recovered': the destination-photo patient (wedding, anniversary, photo shoot), the back-to-work patient (business meeting in 48h), and the keep-sightseeing patient (rest of the trip is touristing, not photographing).
Destination-photo (strictest standard): allow 5–7 days post-treatment for any injectable that bruises (HA filler, biostimulators) or marks the skin (Pico Laser). Botox, HIFU, Thermage are photo-acceptable the same day.
Thread lift takes the longest — destination-photo patients should land 7–10 days before the event.
Back-to-work (most common): 48 hours covers everything except thread lift. Concealer covers Day 1 filler bruising. HIFU, Thermage, and Pico patients return to work the next morning with no concealment needed.
Keep-sightseeing (most flexible): same-day return to walking around Bangkok is fine for every treatment except thread lift (recommend a quiet evening of room service rather than a late dinner out, then full sightseeing from Day 2 onward). The IconSiam → Old Town → Chatuchak loop is realistic the day after most treatments.
04Sample 3-day trip — the minimum viable Bangkok aesthetic getaway
Three days is the floor for a single-treatment trip with built-in safety buffer. Two days is doable but high-risk if your flight is delayed.
Most international patients fly Friday morning, fly home Sunday evening — that is a real three-day window.
Day 1 (Friday): 09:30 land Suvarnabhumi
11:00 hotel check-in
14:00 clinic appointment (consultation + treatment, 90 min)
16:00 light dinner
19:00 rest. The afternoon clinic slot lets the morning traffic clear and gives the early-morning flight passengers a window to rehydrate before injections.
Day 2 (Saturday): full sightseeing day. Grand Palace + Wat Pho in the morning (cooler before 10am), lunch in the Old Town, Chatuchak market or Siam Paragon in the afternoon, rooftop dinner.
Bruising peaks today if it's going to peak — bring concealer.
Day 3 (Sunday): morning AquaPure or skin-glow finishing treatment if booked (60 min), late checkout, optional spa or massage, evening flight home. Patients who flew with a treatment plan + a finishing-glow add-on rate this Day 3 morning highest of any single trip moment in our exit surveys.
05Sample 5-day trip — the optimal multi-treatment Bangkok stay
Five days is where the math compounds: you can fit 3–4 treatments without any one of them eating sightseeing time, and the bruising window for filler closes inside the trip rather than spilling into the flight home or back-to-work week.
Day 1 (arrive): 11:00 land
13:30 hotel
16:00 consultation + Botox (60 min total visit). Botox first because it has the longest onset (4–7 days to full effect) — front-loading it lets you photograph the result before flying home.
- Day 2: 09:30 thread lift OR HIFU (90 min)
- · 12:00 quiet lunch + room rest
- · 16:00 walking sightseeing if HIFU was the choice (thread lift = stay quiet today).
Day 3: full sightseeing day. River Cruise + Asiatique + rooftop dinner. Filler can be added today if part of the plan (60 min mid-afternoon) — bruising will resolve before Day 5.
Day 4: morning Pico Laser or biostimulator (45 min)
afternoon massage + spa
evening final dinner. The biostimulator dose plants the seed for collagen synthesis that builds over the next 30 days, so the trip continues working after you fly home.
- Day 5 (depart): morning AquaPure finishing glow (60 min)
- · late checkout
- · evening flight. Same exit-survey high as the 3-day trip — patients land at the airport feeling visibly rested, not visibly treated.
06Sample 7-day Songkran or Loy Krathong extension — the festival-aware itinerary
Bangkok's two biggest festival windows — Songkran (mid-April) and Loy Krathong (November full moon) — pull a particular international cohort: patients who want the cultural moment AND the aesthetic refresh. The 7-day window is genuinely the most relaxed: every treatment fits with full safety buffer, plus 2–3 festival days that are photo-heavy.
Pre-festival (Day 1–3): consultation + Botox + HIFU + Thermage. All three have zero post-clinic markings.
By Day 4 you can be in the Songkran water-fight crowds at Silom or the Loy Krathong floats at Phra Athit pier without anyone reading 'just had something done' on your face.
Festival (Day 4–5): no treatments — these are the photo days. Bring sunscreen (Songkran in particular is high UV exposure; HIFU patients should be especially careful for the first 7 days post-treatment).
Post-festival (Day 6–7): final treatments — filler if planned (any bruising fades before flying), AquaPure finishing glow on Day 7 morning, evening flight. Patients on this itinerary post-rate the trip at 9.4/10 in our 12-month exit survey aggregate.
Note on Songkran: the clinic stays open during Songkran with adjusted hours (typically 10:00–17:00 instead of 11:00–19:00). Loy Krathong has minor schedule shifts only on the festival evening itself.
Always confirm specific dates with the clinic when booking around Thai public holidays.
