Intralesional triamcinolone (commonly called 'cortisone shot' for acne) is the dermatologist's emergency tool for cystic acne — large, deep, painful cysts that don't respond to topical treatment. A small dose of triamcinolone acetonide (typically 2.5–10 mg/ml dilution) is injected directly into the cyst with a fine 30G needle.
